Rice Head Coach Wayne Graham
"Tech did not have a good game defensively, and Justin (Crowder) pitched a great game, held them down. It was one of the best games I've seen pitched under pressure. That was an unusual game for Tech because they're a good defensive team. They had one of those days. We've had them before.
On team's hitting -- "We hit 6-7 good that could've been hits, got the bunt down, and Vincent got us started with the home run.
On championship game -- "It's up to us to finish it now. Our bullpen's in good shape for the game."
Rice LHP Justin Crowder
"I just wanted to come out and throw strikes, keep Tech on their toes, and the defense behind me helped out. I just tried to make good pitches. I was just going inning by inning, tried not to let the heat get in my mind.
Rice 1B Vincent Sinisi
"It felt good out there today, Justin threw a good game, got us going.
On team's hitting -- "Once you get in the regionals you see better pitching, but ours is keeping us in it. One or two runs is enough to get it done right now."
Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays
"I'm really disappointed in the way we pitched and played defense. That could have been a 1-0 game, real easily if we had played any defense at all. In a 1-0 game and the two times that we had a chance to score, we may have been able to do some things a little differently."
" Overall, Dusty didn't pitch all that bad. We just didn't play well behind him We're just not that good defensively, we're not that good on the corners and because of injuries, we are having to play with some guys out of position. We haven't played good on bunt defense in three weeks. It's obvious that we're hurt and the teams (we're playing) are picking up on that right now. Right now it's crisis management. We need a little luck and we're just doing what we can out there."
Texas Tech Pitcher Dusty Buck
"I was sharp in the first inning and over the next couple of innings, I was falling behind people. I was then forced to throw strikes right now the middle and not use the downward action on my pitches. Early on I had a good sinker, but I got a little tired and when that happens my pitches don't move around a lot and I fall behind (in the count) to the hitters. Like I said, I was having to throw them right in there and they were making me pay for it. ."
