Texas Tech Game Notes Texas Tech vs. Washington NCAA Regionals * Reckling Park * Houston, Texas
* Tonight's game marks the eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance by the Red Raiders and the eighth overall in school history. Texas Tech joined Oklahoma and Texas as one of just three teams in the Big 12 this season to send all four major sports (Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Baseball) to post-season play.
* Texas Tech has 10 players who are playing in their first NCAA Championships including senior Jake Brown who transferred to Texas Tech from Iowa State after the school cut their baseball program at the end of last year. Senior catcher Willie Durazo is the only player on the squad to have played in two NCAA Championships at two different schools as he played in the NCAA's with Northern Iowa at the Nebraska Regional in 2001.
* The game between Texas Tech and Washington was the first meeting between the two schools. Start time was delayed until 7:20 p.m. due to rain showers that developed at the end of the Rice/Harvard game.
* Texas Tech starter Steve Gooch made his 18th appearance of the season and his 16th start. Gooch took over as the number one pitcher for Tech in the series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he got his first Friday night start. Gooch pitched 6 2/3 innings tonight which marked his 14th 6-plus inning game. Gooch has lasted at least six inning in 12 of his 14 starts.
* Junior center fielder Jon Slack picked up his 29th steal of the season in the first inning and now leads Gera Alvarez for the team lead by nine. Slack also picked up his 21st multiple hit game of the season and his 13th two-hit game of the year.
* Junior left fielder Scooter Jordan picked up his 20th multiple hit game of the year and his 15th two-hit game.
* Senior catcher Willie Durazo earned his 26th multiple hit game of the season and his 20th two-hit game of the year.
* Senior third baseman Jake Brown tallied his 16th multiple hit game of the season and his 13th two-hit game of the year. Brown has picked up multiple hit games in four of the last five games.
* Texas Tech caught two runners stealing in tonight's game for the first time this season.
* The win tonight is Texas Tech's third walk-off win of the season.
* The last time Texas Tech won the first game of the NCAA Tournament was in 1999 when Tech defeated Rutgers 5-2 on May 28 at Dan Law Field in Lubbock at the Lubbock Regional.
* Texas Tech is now 13-14 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
