Eimen and Baker Receive Big 12 Academic Honors

DALLAS - The Big 12 Conference takes great pleasure in honoring 40 student-athletes who have been named to the 2002 Softball Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced Thursday. Texas Tech's Rebecca Eimen was named to the first team, while Jana Baker was selected to the second team.
Eimen, a senior from Mannford, Okla., is a marketing major who is making her first appearance on the academic all-conference team. This was the first year Eimen was eligible for academic all-conference honors since transferring to Texas Tech. The Lubbock, Texas native Baker is now a two-time academic all-conference honoree and is also a marketing major.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's basketball academic all-league squad consisted of 39 combined first-team members with nine on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
Many of these student-athletes will be competing at the seventh Big 12 Conference Softball Tournament at Don Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Thursday-Sunday. Oklahoma is the defending Big 12 tourney champion, while Texas is the 2002 conference regular-season champion.
