
Beverly Dawson Named Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior Beverly Dawson was named Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the league office yesterday. Dawson won back-to-back matches over the weekend giving her the honor for the week of April 8-14.
Her first win of the weekend came against New Mexico State's Carol Blechschmidt, 6-1, 6-1. Dawson later helped the Tech tennis team upset then-28th-ranked Baylor, 5-2, with a triumph over Frida Borjesson, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4. Her best career win came against Texas when she picked up Tech's only point in a 6-1 loss. She defeated Katie Ruckart in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
The latest ITA poll has the Red Raiders ranked 57th , their first ranking on the season, going into this weekend's match with Oklahoma State. The two teams will face-off at the McLeod Tennis Center on Sat., April 20 at 10 a.m. The match will be Tech's final regular-season match of the season before heading to College Station for the Big 12 Tennis Championships.
