
Women's Tennis Defeats New Mexico State

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team faced New Mexico State at the McLeod Tennis Center, today, beating the Aggies, 4-1. The win puts the Red Raiders at 8-11 overall, 3-6 in Big 12 play.
Tech started the day with the No. 1 doubles tandem of Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson defeating Lejla Porobic and Elke Blodau (NMSU), 8-5. The No. 2 team of Alenka Ovin and Kendall Brooks were defeated by Harriet Piercy and Jenny Petterson (NMSU), 8-6. The No. 3 match did not take place because of injuries on the New Mexico State team.
In singles, Tech picked up four of five points, losing only one match at the No. 2 position. Ovin was defeated by Harriet Piercy (NMSU), 6-3, 6-4 and No. 6 Brooks was unable to play because of New Mexico State injuries, as well.
Tomorrow, Tech will face 28th-ranked Baylor at the McLeod Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
