
Tech Gets Big Win Over UTA

LUBBOCK, Tex. - The Texas Tech men's tennis team continued its undefeated play at home by defeating Texas-Arlington 6-1 this afternoon. The team will look to carry its momentum into Sunday's conference opening match will the Colorado Buffaloes at the McLeod Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
Tech began the match by clinching the doubles point on a win by Alfonso Perez (Guadalajera, Mexico)and Michael Innerebner (Milan, Italy) in the number three doubles slot. The singles matches brought several very tightly contested matches. Senior co-captain Royce Ramey (Richardson, Texas) faced off against UTA's Andy Leber, the second ranked player in the country. Ramey, who is ranked 59th in the country, played inspired tennis before eventually falling 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. The win was the only victory on the day for the Mavericks.
The Red Raiders (8-5) broke into the national rankings this week for the first time this season earning a tie for 75th. The Mavericks (8-6) entered the match ranked #68 in the country. Colorado will enter Sunday's match ranked 69th with a 7-3 record.
"This was our best team effort all year." Said head coach Tim Siegel. "We came out and played really well against a good UTA team. Now we have to put it behind us and come out with more intensity and effort against a better Colorado team."
Fans attending Sunday's Colorado match and all other home matches this season will receive free pizza and the first fifty fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
