
Bolen, Kelly Qualify for U.S. Amateur

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech golf team members David Bolen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz. / Buena) have qualified for the 101st U.S. Amateur August 20-26. East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, Ga., will serve as the venue for this year's championship.
The course layout is a par-70, 7,091-yard Tom Bendelow design and can be viewed at www.usamateur.org. Play begins with two days of stroke play followed by five days of match play. From August 22-24, the event will be aired on ESPN from 1-4 p.m. (CT). NBC will carry live coverage from 3-5 p.m. on August 25-26.
Kelly qualified for the event after winning the sectional at Ko Olina Golf Club in Kapolei, Hawaii, with a two-round total of 145, three shots over the second-place finisher. Bolen finished in a tie for third at the sectional in San Antonio at the Golf Club of Texas. Bolen's two-day total was 141.
Bolen turned in a 74.4 stroke average last season for the Red Raiders in 10 tournaments. Kelly average 76.2 strokes per round.
