Red Raiders Compete at Texas Relays

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field squad began competition at the 74th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday, with two distance runners competing, as well as the completion of the men's decathlon.
Freshman Tracie Akerhielm finished seventh in the women's 3000 meters with a time of 10:16.39. Senior David Leigh finished in a time of 34:07.26 in the men's 10000 meters.
Sophomore Olavi Paavo completed competition in the men's decathlon, totaling 6061 points.
The rest of the Tech squad will finish competition in the four-day meet on Friday, with Tiffany Green, Tami Zachary and Monique Wright-Cruse scheduled to run in the women's 100 meters, and senior Leigh Daniel running in the women's 5000 meters.
The Red Raiders travel next weekend to El Paso, Texas, for the UTEP Invitational. The Big 12 Championships begin April 26 in Waco, Texas, on the Baylor University campus.
