LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team posted a host of season-best marks at this past weekend's TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, including Monique Wright-Cruse's time of 11.50 in the women's 100 meters.
Wright-Cruse finished second in Saturday's 100m in 11.50 in only her second outdoor meet of the season. She was joined by freshman Tiffany Green, who took sixth in a time of 11.61.
Freshman D'Andria Brigham came in fifth in the 400 intermediate hurdles in 1:02.99. Wright-Cruse and Green joined Tami Zachary and Rachelle Evans on the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second in a time of 45.04, the fastest time this season for the Red Raiders. Ngozi Iwu, Melonie Barrow, Brigham and Evans helped lead the 4x400-meter relay squad to a first-place finish in 3:40.14.
Evans, Barrow and Iwu finished one, two, three in the 400 meters, posting times of 54.55, 55.26 and 55.31.
Freshman Bliss Williams came in fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18-9, her best mark this season. Williams also came in fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-2.25.
Tracy Anderson and Megan Schuessler came in first and third, respectively, in the discus throw with marks of 153-4 and 146-2. Schuessler also finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 41-0.25.
Junior Candice Cole had her best effort this season in the javelin, finishing second in the event with a mark of 121-8. Freshmen Ashley Ramsey and Kacie Petropoulos came in second and third, respectively, in the pole vault, clearing 10-6 and 9-6.25.
Ryan Curry took fourth in the discus for the men with a mark of 156-11, while pole vaulter Ken Wilson cleared his best height of the season at 15-11.25 for second place. Mike Beasley came in third in the high jump with a mark of 6-11.75.
Dwayne Benoit finished third in the 1500m with a season-best time of 3:53.98. Saidric Williams also posted the second fastest 100m time this season for the Red Raiders, finishing in a time of 10.43.
David Leigh and Joseph McCellon finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 5000m, with Leigh posting a time of 15:17.02. Scott Moore also ran his best time this year in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:41.29.
The tandem of Bronzay Rivera, JR Holder, Jon Decker and Orin Darrington posted Tech's fastest time this season in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 3:15.79 for fifth place.
The Red Raiders will take part in this weekend's Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., from Thursday through Saturday before hosting Oklahoma in a dual meet on Saturday, May 5, at R.P. Fuller Stadium on the Tech campus.
