Track Heads to TCU Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team and coach Wes Kittley travel to Fort Worth, Texas, this Saturday for the TCU Invitational, while senior Leigh Daniel will participate in the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Thirty-nine athletes will compete in the one-day event on the TCU campus in Fort Worth, with field events beginning at 11 a.m. and running events starting at noon.
Freshman Saidric Williams will run in both the 100 and 200 meters after posting Tech's top time of the season in both events at last week's UTEP Invitational in El Paso. Williams finished third in last week's 100 with a time of 10.25, while finishing the 200 in 21.57.
High jumper Mike Beasley, who cleared 7-0.25 at the Red Raider Open on March 31, will also compete, as will discus thrower Ryan Curry.
On the women's side, sprinters Tami Zachary, Tiffany Green and Monique Wright-Cruse will all participate in the 100. Zachary ran the team's fastest time in the 100 last week with 11.58, while Green, Zachary and Ashley Mitchell posted the three fastest times of the season in the 200 at the UTEP Invitational.
Melonie Barrow, Ngozi Iwu and Rachelle Evans will run in the 400. The foursome of Iwu, Barrow, D'Andria Brigham and Evans will also form Tech's 4x400-meter relay squad on Saturday.
Tracy Anderson and Megan Schuessler will compete in the discus throw, while Schuessler will also throw the shot put. Schuessler threw a team season-best of 43-7 in the shot put last Saturday in El Paso, while pole vaulter Ashley Ramsey cleared a season-best 10-6.
The Red Raider squad will next participate in the international Penn Relays next Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa.
