LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley announced the signing of high jumper Chad Phariss to a national letter of intent on Thursday.
Phariss, from Vernon High School in Vernon, Texas, has cleared 7-1 in the high jump at a high school meet in Brownwood, Texas, earlier this month, and has consistently cleared 6-10 to 7-1 this season.
"Chad has not had a meet below 6-10 this year, and has cleared between 6-10 and 7-1 in every meet," Kittley said. "He is a diamond in the rough because he is very inexperienced in the event. He has done well in a short period of time and we are very excited about what he can do once he learns the event and gets stronger."
The Tech track squad will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the TCU Invitational, while senior Leigh Daniel will travel to the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
