Women's Tennis Begins Six-Match Road Trip

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team (6-5, 2-4) will begin a six-match road trip this weekend on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 in Oklahoma. On Saturday, the squad will take on 15th-ranked Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., and will travel to Norman, Okla., on Sunday to battle the Sooners.
The women are led by freshman Irina Tereschenko in singles action. She is posting a team leading 9-4 overall record and 4-4 in Big 12 action. On Monday, March 13 she earned her first ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings at No. 80 out of 100. She remained in that spot for two consecutive weeks, but moved up to No. 46 on Wednesday, March 28. She is the highest ranked player ever under Head Coach Virginia Brown.
In doubles action, Tereschenko has teamed-up with sophomore Beverly Dawson in the No. 1 doubles position. The duo has recorded a team leading 11-2 overall record and 6-2 in league play. The deadly combo is coming off a victory against the Lubbock native Steinbock twins of Kansas, 8-4.
The Red Raiders have won three of the last five matches against the Cowboys. OSU leads the all-time series 3-4 while Oklahoma leads the all-time series 3-5.
Following this weekend's match the Red Raiders return to the Lone Star State to continue on the road Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6, in College Station, Texas, to battle Texas A&M and Sam Houston State.
