Five Red Raiders Named To Big 12 Academic Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team placed five student athletes on the 2001 Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 team, the Big 12 Conference announced on Tuesday.
Junior outside hitter Melissa McGehee along with freshman outside hitter Kelly Johnson and junior middle blocker Stacey Poole were named to the first-team. To be placed on the first-team, a player must have competed in 60% of the team's scheduled contests and mantained 3.2 or better cumulative GPA.
Senior outside hitter Heather Hughes-Justice and senior middle blocker Kate Jury-Shannon were named to the second-team as both athletes have maintained a 3.0 or better GPA.
A combined 53 volleyball student-athletes from Big 12 institutions were named to the first and second team while 42 student-athletes garnered first-team honors.
