The Texas Tech women's tennis team will compete in its first match of the 2000-2001 season this weekend when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, Fri., Sept. 22, and Sat., Sept. 23 for the TCU Tournament.
The Red Raiders will bounce into competition behind senior Alenka Ovin and junior Noel Ruiz, this year's team captains. The young squad looks to learn and excel at the same time. Tech enters the fall season with four freshmen and four sophomores.
"We've been hitting long enough," said coach Virginia Brown about practice. "It's time to put it to the test."
The last action for Tech came at the Big 12 Championships against Nebraska where the Red Raiders fell 5-0 on April 27, 2000.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Red Raiders will travel to Waco, Texas, Oct. 6, to compete in the Baylor Tournament.
