OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-- Sixth-seeded Texas Tech scored five runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and upset third-seeded Texas, 8-4.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a two-run home run by Tiffany Harrington and a Lynsey Haij solo shot in the top of the third. The homers were the first for both players.
Texas responded with a homer of its own when Lindsay Gardner tied the score with a three-run shot in the bottom of the third. The Longhorns struck again when a bunt by Melissa Martin scored Keely Franks from third base in the fifth inning. Texas replaced starting pitcher Carmen Martinez with Charla Moore in the sixth and the Longhorns surrendered five runs in the inning. The Red Raiders' Haij tied the score on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and no outs. Moore then walked home a run and Texas Tech plated another on a Moore error. A second Texas error in the inning led to another run.
The Red Raiders closed out the scoring when Sandy Butler drove in Kristi Tunnell from third with a base hit. A total of 11 Texas Tech batters came to the plate in the sixth inning.
