Red Raiders Finish Eighth at Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore David Bolen (Austin, Texas) shot an even-par 70 in the final round and finished in a tie for sixth to lead the Red Raiders in the final round of the 2000 Big 12 Conference Championships at Prairie Dunes Golf & Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The Red Raiders finished the tournament in eighth place.
Oklahoma State won the team title by 12 strokes over second-place Kansas. Colorado finished third followed by Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma. Following the Red Raiders are Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State and Nebraska.
Individually for the Red Raiders, Bolen opened the tournament with a 71 and followed with a 75 in the second round. He entered the final round tied in the 20th position before shooting par on the final 18.
Texas Tech was sixth after the first two round, but shot a 313 in the final round. After averaging 73.5 strokes in the first two rounds, Tech golfers struggled on the final day with a 79.6 average. Freshman Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) was tied in 10th place entering today's play, but posted an 85 to finish tied in 36th place. Trey Pyka (San Antonio, Texas) finished in a 32nd place tie, while Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas) finished in 41st place. Corey Henegar (Austin, Texas) finished tied in 46th place.
OSU's Charles Howell shattered the tournament record en route to winning the individual title. Howell turned in rounds of 66, 66 and 68 to shoot a 10-under par 210 and win by 10 strokes over OSU teammate Edward Loar.
