LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team dropped a close 1-0 conference game to the Texas Longhorns this afternoon in action at the Texas Tech Recreational Intramural Fields. The loss drops Tech to 14-28 on the season and 4-3 in conference. Amanda Renfro took the loss for Tech, falling to 11-16 on the season.
The game was scheduled to be a doubleheader. However, the second game was cancelled due to inclement weather, including tornado warnings, lightning, heavy rain and hail. The game will not be made up.
The game was a battle between a pair of the Big 12's best pitchers, Amanda Renfro for Tech and Charla Moore for UT. Both pitchers held the opposition scoreless until the fifth inning. With one out and nobody on, UT designated player Kathleen Richter sent a ball over the centerfield fence to make the score 1-0. It was all the run support needed as Moore shut down the Raiders for the remainder of the game.
Renfro pitched seven innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits while walking two batters. She struck out eight Longhorns.
Tech is back in action this weekend when they face the Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday and Sunday.
