Red Raiders 0-3 in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. - The Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team failed dropped their first game of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic softball tournament then failed in a pair of upset bids to start the weekend with an 0-3 mark. On Thursday night the Raiders dropped their opening game to Cal Poly 2-0. Tech managed to notch only three hits against Cal Poly's Terra Blackenbeckler and the Mustangs capitalized off of three Red Raider errors to come away with a 2-0 win. Dana Yocum (6 IP, 1 ER) took the loss for Tech and fell to 2-4.
In the second game the Raiders took on No. 7 Fresno State and dropped the contest 2-0. All-American Amanda Scott kept Tech off the basepaths, holding the Red Raiders to three hits in seven innings. Amanda Renfro pitched well but not well enough. The junior fell to 5-9 on the year after pitching six innings and scattering six hits while allowing only one earned run.
The Raiders took on No. 3 UCLA on Friday afternoon. Tech's Amanda Renfro kept the game close until the fifth inning when UCLA's Julie Marshall hit a grand slam home-run to make the score 6-0. The Bruins went on to win the game 7-0. UCLA's Steph Swenson pitched the complete game while allowing only two hits. Renfro took the loss and fell to 5-11on the year.
Tech is back in action on Saturday when they face Mississippi and Illinois State.
