Softball Drops To No. 20 Hawaii, 6-0

HONOLULU - The Texas Tech Red Raiders fastpitch softball team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine tonight during the second day of play at the Chevron Paradise Classic. The loss drops Tech to 0-9 on the year while Hawaii improves to 2-1.
Hawaii came into the game ranked No. 20 in the nation and looked very deserving of the ranking. Thw Wahine jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the third. In the fourth inning, aided by two Tech errors, Hawaii added two more runs.
In a game that started two hours late (9 p.m. HST, 1 a.m. CST) the Red Raider bats seemed to be asleep. Wahine pitcher Sheri Oronez, aided by some outstanding defensive play from her infield, did not surrender a base hit until the fifth inning when Tiffany Harrington singled into left center for Tech. It was the only hit the Raiders could muster all night.
Ninette Martinez (4IP, 4ER) took the loss for Tech and falls to 0-3 on the season. Tech returns to action Saturday when they face No. 19 Texas and Hofstra.
