Three Red Raiders named to AP All-Big 12 Team

LUBBOCK, Texas -- - Junior strong safety Kevin Curtis was named first team All-Big 12 by the Associated Press on Thursday, Nov. 30. Senior wide receiver Tim Baker and sophomore linebacker Lawrence Flugence claimed second-team honors. This was Curtis' fifth first-team honor in the post season. He was also named first-team by Football News, the Dallas Morning News, The Sporting News and the Houston Chronicle. Curtis finished the season second on the team in tackles (122) as well as second on the team in tackles for a loss (15). Baker is currently second in the Big 12 and 26th nationally in receiving at 5.8 receptions per game. He leads the conference in receptions (69), third in touchdown catches (7) and fourth in yards (765) after 12 games. Flugence was named SBC Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week after scooping up a blocked field goal and returning it 79 yards for a touchdown against OSU. He leads the team in tackles with 156 after 12 games and is ranked fourth nationally. Other players receiving honorable mention include: offensive linemen Matt Heider and Rex Richards, wide receiver Derek Dorris, defensive lineman Kris Kocurek, linebackers John Norman and Dorian Pitts. Freshman Wes Welker claimed all-purpose honorable mention. The newcomer earned a spot on the True Freshman All-America Team by Rivals.com.
