Tech Drops UTEP In Four

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team took a break from non-conference action on Monday night and came out victorious with a four-game win over UTEP at United Spirit Arena.
With the win, Texas Tech improves to 19-5 on the season while UTEP falls to 9-13 on the year. Texas Tech grabbed the first game of the match 15-8 but was unable to take a 2-0 lead at the intermission as UTEP stunned the Red Raiders winning 10-15 in game-two. UTEP jumped ahead early in the game thanks to four kills by Stacy Zimmerman and Tech was never able to get back on track. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa McGhee led all players at the intermission with 10 kills and seven digs.
Texas Tech fell behind 3-5 to start the third game but was able to rattle of 12 straight points to win the match 15-5. Tech struggled at times in the fourth game but was able to pull off the win 15-10.
On the night, Texas Tech was paced by Melissa McGehee who tallied 18 kills and 23 digs while senior outside hitter Colleen Smith finished the evening with 18 kills and 12 digs.
Texas Tech returns to action on Wednesday evening when they play host to the Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by FOX Sports Net on a tape-delay basis.
