Men's Golf Finishes in Top 15 at Nelson Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas -- - The Texas Tech men's golf team finished in 14th place at the Stanford hosted Nelson Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Duke won the team title with a score of 862. (25) North Carolina State finished four strokes off the lead at 866 to take second place, while Washington and Alabama tied for third at 869.
Florida Southern's Steve Sokol shot a 64 (-7) in the final round to come from 13th place for the win with a 208. Duke's Leif Olson led the tournament into the third round, but shot a 72 in the final round to finish second (-3) at 211. Travis Hurst of Kansas finished five strokes of the lead for third place with a 213. Matt Krauss (Duke), Robby Stephenson (Colorado St.), Ryan Barauskas (Purdue) and Ben Portie (Colorado) tied for fourth place at 214.
Sophomore Mark Hull led the Red Raiders at 8-over par (221) to tie for 34th place. Junior David Bolen tied for 40th place with seven other golfers at 10-over par (223), while transfer Kyle Willmann and sophomore Brooks Kelly tied for 60th at 14-over par to finish the tournament with 227s. Senior Corey Henegar finished his first tournament of the year in 82nd place 19-over par with a 232.
The Red Raiders will travel to Waco, Texas, to compete in their last tournament of the fall season at the Baylor Invitational Nov. 6-7.
