EL PASO, Texas - The third game of the Reebok Desert Miner Scramble in El Paso, Texas between Texas Tech and New Mexico ended in a 1-1 tie. The Red Raiders move to 2-3-1 on the year as do the Lobos.
Sophomore forward Carrie Graham once again scored Tech?s only goal at 71:39 on a cross header with an assist from senior forward Kristy Frantz. The Lobos knotted the scored at 86:22 on a goal by Michelle Nowfel and assisted by Jayme Dieringer. After two overtime periods, the game finished as a tie, the first for both teams this year. The Red Raiders outshot New Mexico 18-8, while the Lobos had eight corner kicks to Tech?s five. Sophomore goalkeeper Britany Peese played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves, while junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm had a game-high six shots.
The Red Raiders return home next weekend to host the Four Points Sheraton Shootout, Sept. 17-19. On Friday, the North Texas will take on Syracuse at 4 p.m., while Tech will play North Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be played at R. P. Fuller Stadium.
