Dallas, Texas - Led by nationally ranked teams and returning all-conference performers, the third All-Big 12 Conference women's soccer teams were announced by the league office. The all-conference teams were voted on by the league's head coaches.
Kim Engesser, a senior forward from the University of Nebraska, was selected as the 1998 Big 12 Player of the Year. A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Engesser led the league in points scored in the regular season with 54 and 30 points in conference action. She also ranks among the nation's best in point production. Engesser is third in the country with an average of 3.00 points per game and fourth with a 1.33 goals per game average. This marks the second straight year that Engesser has made the all-conference first team.
Big 12 Rookie of the Year honors go to Iowa State forward Erica Florez. The freshman from Bakersfield, Calif., led the Cyclones in scoring with 24 points. Florez was also named to the All-Big 12 second team.
Baylor head coach Randy Waldrum has been selected as the Big 12 Coach of the Year by his peers. Waldrum led the Bears to the regular-season title with a 9-0-1 record in only its third year of the program. The title was the first team championship for Baylor University in Big 12 competition.
