Waco, Texas -
The Texas Tech softball team didn't start the conference season the way they had hope as the team fell to the Baylor Bears in a doubleheader 1-3,1-2.
The Red Raiders (21-20) were led by Sandy Butler who had three hits and two runs scored on eight at-bats. Defensively, Texas Tech was unable to shake off five errors that led to two Baylor points.
In game-one, Tech seemed to have things going their way as they had the early 1-0 lead after Aimee Weathers hit a right field single to score Sandy Butler. Then in the top of the fourth, officials ruled Stephanie Walls out from being within the baseline after being hit by the throw to first. This erased an Eva Harshman score that would have tied the game at 2-2. Baylor would get one final hit in the fifth inning to put the game away and hand Tech its first conference loss of the season. Going into the game, Tech was 16-1 when scoring the first run.
In game two, errors and the inability to produce at the plate cost the Red Raiders a second Big 12 loss to the Baylor Bears. Sandy Butler scored off a Kim Martinez double to left field that tied the score at 1-1. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Baylors Misty Perry hit her first home run of the season to the lift the Bears to a 2-1 victory.
Tech returns to action tomorrow when they will host Division II Texas Lutheran at Baylors Veterans Field.
