Texas Tech Volleyball Defeats Missouri

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Missouri Tigers in volleyball action tonight by a score of 3-1 to end their season on a winning note. The 15-3, 11-15, 15-5, 15-12 win gives the Red Raiders a record of 18-15 (7-13 Big 12) for the year while Missouri finishes its season with a 10-21 (4-16) record. It was the final match of the year for both clubs.
Lori Garber and Colleen Smith led the way for Tech, finishing with 16 and 15 kills respectively. Smith hit a red-hot .565 (15-2-23) for the match and also added 10 digs to record a double-double. Freshman Ann Romjue also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
After winning the first game easily, Texas Tech fell behind early in the second match and never caught up. With the score 14-8 in faver of Mizzou, Tech mounted a short rally to pull within 3 at 14-11 but wound up with a 15-11 loss.
In game three the Red Raiders took advantage of a poor Tiger hitting performance (-.033, 5-6-30) to gain an easy win. They then wrapped things up in game four, bolting out to an early 6-0 lead and going ahead 14-8 before Mizzou mounted a rally to bring the score back to 14-12. However, Tech closed out the game and the match, winning 15-12.
For the game. Tech out hit the Tigers .228 to .131. Nicole Panzau was the top player for the Tigers, garnering 16 kills and 7 digs. Teammate Naaron Branson had a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs.
