Dinsmore has good day against strong opponent
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Texas Tech (8-6, 0-2) was taken down by No. 19 Kansas (9-3, 2-0) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Elia Dinsmore was a bright spot for Alisa Blair's squad as she finished with a team-high 10 kills while hitting an efficient .350 in the match. Fellow freshman Sara Bowcutt was behind her with seven kills as Katelyn Cochran led the way with 22 assists and eight digs. Emily Contreras tied the team high for digs with eight and Maddie Smotherman notched six of her own.
For Kansas, they hit .427 as a team behind the big swings of Reese Ptacek and Taylor Stanely. Ptacek led the match with 14 kills and hit .689 while Stanley recorded 12 kills and hit .375. The Jayhawk's Grace Nelson did a bit of everything for them, going for seven kills, two assists, two aces, six digs and a block.
Kansas won the first two sets 25-17 and the third set 25-16. Each set was tied 3-3 early before Kansas went on a run that Tech wasn't able to answer. The block by either team wasn't really a factor as much as just good swings as the Jayhawks had 5.5 blocks and Tech two. Kansas was able to be terminal in its attacks, recording 51 kills to just 10 errors on 96 attempts and held Tech to just 31 kills thanks to some good defense on the back row.
UP NEXT: Tech will host West Virginia on Friday at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
