Red Raiders lead after opening day at Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas โ The Texas Tech women's golf team finished the opening 36 holes of the Red Raider Invitational in first place Tuesday at The Rawls Course, led by senior Maja Ambroziak, who sits in third place entering Wednesday's final round.
The Red Raiders have three golfers inside the top 10, with Ambroziak in third at 2-under 142 (73-69). Cameron Freund is one shot behind her, tied for fourth at 1-under 143 (70-73), while Tarini Bhoga is tied for seventh at 2-over 146 (76-70).
Texas Tech leads BYU by four shots entering Wednesday's final round, with Abilene Christian in third at 14-over and New Mexico in fourth at 19-over. The Red Raiders sit at 3-over 579 after opening with a 6-over 294 on a chilly Tuesday morning before responding with the best round of the day, a 3-under 285 in the afternoon. The second-round 285 was the only under-par team round posted across either round by any team in the field.
Ambroziak spearheaded the Red Raiders' second-round charge, firing a 3-under 69 to climb from a tie for sixth into third. She carded five birdies against two bogeys in her second round and enters Wednesday just two shots behind Sam Houston's Isabelle Hurrion, who leads the individual field at 4-under 140.
Freund opened the tournament with a 2-under 70 before adding a 1-over 73 in the second round to sit at 1-under 143. She enters the final round one shot behind Ambroziak and tied for fourth.
Bhoga made one of the biggest moves of the day for Tech, rebounding from a 4-over 76 in the opening round with a 2-under 70 in round two. She is tied for seventh at 2-over 146.
Jiayi Yin also improved in the second round, following a 3-over 75 with a 1-over 73 to sit tied for 11th at 4-over 148. Klara Hurtova, competing as an individual, opened with a 2-under 70 before an 8-over 78 left her tied for 11th at 4-over 148.
Parat Sukanant is tied for 37th at 10-over 154 after rounds of 76-78, while Constance Detroye and Roisin Scanlon, both competing as individuals, are tied for 55th and 61st, respectively.
The Red Raiders will return to the Rawls Course Wednesday for the final round, with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CT.
