Dinsmore, Cochran record double-doubleโs in loss
IOWA CITY, Iowa โ Texas Tech (8-3) fell to West Florida (7-2) in four sets on Friday night in the team's second match of the Kwik Star Klassic.
Sara Bowcutt again led the team in kills with 17 followed by fellow freshman Elia Dinsmore who had 12. Dinsmore also posted 11 digs for her third double-double of the season, tying Bowcutt for the team lead.
Katelyn Cochran picked up her second double-double of the season with 45 assists and 10 digs. Emily Contreras led the team with 21 digs, tying her career high. Shelby Ignash had seven kills while Tatum Johnson had six kills and six blocks. Gretchen Sigman and Kenna McKenzie combined for seven kills to round out the main scorers for Tech.
Tech had things rolling in the first set against Argonauts. The Red Raiders hit .468 behind Bowcutt's seven kills. Johnson, Ignash and McKenzie combined for 10 kills in the set while Cochran dished out 16 assists en route to a 25-16 win.
Set two got off to a rocky start with the Argonauts taking an early 8-3 lead. That lead continued to grow as West Florida hit over almost .250 while Tech hit .000. West Florida tied the match with a 25-16 set win.
Tech took an early 15-7 lead into the media timeout but the Argonauts would not go away as they made a 7-1 run out of that break and eventually took the lead 20-19 late in the set. The set was tied 25-25 before West Florida scored back-to-back points to go up 2-1 in the match.
The early fourth set was more of the same for West Florida as they took an 18-11 lead after the media timeout. The Red Raiders fought back to make it 23-21 and force an Argonauts timeout. West Florida, however, won the set 25-23 to take the match.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will be finish their time in Iowa with a match against the Hawkeyes tomorrow at noon.
