Polar led the nation in batting average this season on her way to being named an All-American
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders announced the signing of All-American Moriah Polar on Monday morning. Polar led the nation in batting average, hitting an unreal .555 on the season while also being second in the country in hits (101) behind only Mihyia Davis.
The rising senior comes to Texas Tech after spending her last three seasons at Purdue where she set the school's single-season record for hits, runs, batting average and on-base percentage this past season. A native of Pearland, the Texan, will get to spend her senior year in her home state.
Polar has the dynamic speed, IQ and playmaking ability at the plate and in the outfield that will be a perfect addition to Gerry Glasco's roster after graduating Davis this summer. She finished the season with 32 stolen bases and was named an All-American by the NFCA, D1Softball and Softball America while being named a First Team All-Big 10 member and an NFCA All-Region First Team honoree. She received more national recognition when she was named to the top 25 USA Softball Player of the Year watch list – the first Boilermaker to do so.
She'll come to Tech having amassed 218 hits, 137 runs, 103 RBI, 295 total bases and 81 steals while holding a career batting average of .436.
