Senior Tracer Lopez moved into 10th all-time on the hits list in the contest
SALT LAKE CITY – Senior Tracer Lopez in his 201st career game singled in his first at-bat and his last at-bat in Texas Tech's 12-2 (7 inn.) loss to Utah Saturday afternoon at America First Ballpark.
Recording his 215th and 216th career hits to move into solo 10th place on the all-time Texas Tech (20-18, 6-11 Big 12) hits list, Lopez went 2-for-3 with a sac-fly.
Lopez initially tied and later passed former Red Raider Scott LeJeune for 10th-place all-time on the hits list. Next up for Lopez will be Joey Kenworthy who had 218 hits.
Locked in a scoreless pitchers-duel and with Connor Mohan having retired eight-straight, the Red Raiders saw Utah (19-15, 8-9 Big 12) take control of the contest with a seven-run fourth inning.
The inning started with a lead-off homer from the Utes left fielder Jake Long, and also included a three-run homer from Matt Flaharty, a two-run triple from Luke Jacobs and an RBI single from Long.
The home run from Flaharty and the RBI single from Long chased Mohan from the game after 3.2 innings. He allowed eight hits, seven runs and struck out four.
Down 7-0, the Red Raiders used a one-out double from Linkin Garcia, a single and a walk to load the bases for Lopez. The walk chased Utes starter Payton Risk from the game after 4.1 innings pitched and 61 total pitches.
On the third pitch he saw from reliever Dylan Gazaway, Lopez lofted a sac-fly to center to put the Red Raiders on the board.
With runners on the corners and two outs, Gazaway struck out Connor Shouse on three pitches to hold the Red Raiders to one.
After a scoreless bottom of the fifth from Donovan Becerra, the Red Raiders used back-to-back walks and an RBI single from Jesse Ruisnek to cut the Utah lead to 7-2.
In the sixth, Utah added three more runs and scored twice in the seventh to close out the 12-2 run-rule (seven inning) win.
