Texas Tech hosted its final spring practice on Friday night with the annual Spring Game inside Jones AT&T Stadium
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech football team hosted its annual spring game Friday night at Jones AT&T Stadium, working through approximately 90 minutes of scrimmage action that emphasized a variety of competitive situations in front of a crowd of more than 5,000, including a sold-out Gary Petersen Field Club.
The scrimmage was divided into quarters with a halftime break that featured the presentation of team awards for the 2025 season:
On the field, the Red Raiders wore their gray Patrick Mahomes "Galvanized" Strategy uniforms, while quarterbacks donned traditional red jerseys.
Friday marked the first opportunity for fans to see several high-profile transfers in action, including quarterback Brendan Sorsby, linebacker Austin Romaine and defensive ends Adam Trick and Trey White. It also marked the group's first time competing inside Jones AT&T Stadium, as the team had not practiced in the venue prior to the spring game.
The first touchdown of the night came from a pair of newcomers, as Sorsby connected with Jett Carpenter on a three-yard scoring pass. Peyton Morgan, competing for a starting role at safety, recorded an interception during a second-quarter segment that featured situational drills, including end-of-half and end-of-game scenarios.
Following a third quarter that included 7-on-7 drills and line competitions, the final period showcased a competitive scoring format between the offense and defense, with the first unit to 18 points declared the winner. Sorsby led the offense to 12 points with touchdown passes of 18 yards to Jalen Jones and 25 yards to Donte Lee Jr. The defense matched that total behind a missed field goal and a fourth-down stop.
Tied at 12-12, the defense appeared to secure the win before a defensive holding penalty on fourth down extended the drive. With the ball placed at the 9-yard line following a half-the-distance penalty, Sorsby delivered the game-winning touchdown pass to Micah Hudson to cap the scrimmage.
Texas Tech now turns its attention to spring finals and summer workouts before opening preseason camp for the 2026 season in early August. The Red Raiders will open the season Sept. 5 against Abilene Christian at Jones AT&T Stadium.
