The Red Raiders used a six-run seventh to improve to 4-2 in Big 12 play
TUCSON, Ariz. – Connor Shouse hit a seventh inning go-ahead home run to propel Texas Tech to a 12-10 win Sunday afternoon over the University of Arizona at Hi Corbett Field.
Helping Texas Tech (15-8, 4-2 Big 12) to its fifth-straight weekend series victory, Shouse went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a walk.
Down 2-0 early, Tech got a lead-off single from Caden Ferraro and a double from catcher Matt Quintanar to place the tying runs on base with no outs.
The Red Raiders immediately tied the game at two, using back-to-back run-scoring singles from right fielder Jesse Ruisnek and Robin Villeneuve.
After a bunt hit from centerfielder Kyler Thompson loaded the bases with no outs, Arizona (8-15, 2-4 Big 12) used a force out at the plate to record the inning's first out.
Stepping to the plate with the go-ahead runs on base, Shouse worked a four-pitch walk that scored Villeneuve. The run-scoring free pass gave Tech a 3-2 lead.
With two outs and the bases still loaded, the Red Raiders hung two more runs on the board on a two-RBI single from Linkin Garcia that gave Tech a 5-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the third, Arizona tied the game at five-all on a two-run single from Maddox Mihalakis and a sac-bunt from Jackson Forbes.
The game remained 5-5 until the top of the sixth, when the Red Raiders used a bases loaded walk from designated hitter Caden Ferraro to take a 6-5.
On top for the first time since the bottom of the third, the Red Raiders saw Arizona hit a pair of solo home runs to take a 7-6 heading to the seventh.
Down by a run and with one out, the Red Raiders got a double from Villeneuve, placing the tying run in scoring position with one out.
On fifth pitch he saw from reliever Benton Hickman, Thompson chopped a ball right back to the pitcher. With Villeneuve streaking for third, the Wildcats reliever threw high to third base, allowing Villeneuve to be safe a third base.
With runners on the corners with one out, Thompson stole second, to place the go-ahead run in scoring position.
The Red Raiders ultimately tied the game at seven on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Shouse's big swing.
Even in the count, Shouse unloaded on the third pitch he saw from reliever Garrett Hick, launching a 433-feet home run to left center.
The blast gave the Red Raiders a 10-7 lead.
After a walk to Hughes, the Red Raiders used an RBI single from Garcia and an RBI single from Ferraro to take a 12-7 lead.
In the eighth, Arizona loaded the bases with two outs before right fielder turned pitcher Jesse Rusinek ended the threat with a ground ball to first.
Heading to the ninth with a 12-7 advantage, the Red Raiders saw Arizona pull to within 12-9 with the bases loaded and one out, before reliever Will Jordan won a 2-2 battle with Caleb Danzeisen to put the second out of the inning on the board.
After a hit-by-pitch brought UofA to within 12-10, Jordan coaxed a lazy pop-up to right to secure his first career save and the first save by a Red Raider this season.
In the win, the Red Raiders recorded 15 hits and walked seven times, as every single Red Raider starter had at least one hit and eight of nine starters scored at least one run.
