Red Raiders surge to second behind 8-under round

TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas Tech surged from seventh into second place on Saturday behind the lowest round of the day, firing an 8-under 280 in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club at Saddlebrooke.
The Red Raiders improved five spots on the leaderboard and sit at 6-under 570 (290-280) through 36 holes, trailing No. 25 Iowa State by nine strokes entering Sunday's final round.
The 8-under performance marked Texas Tech's second-lowest team round of the 2025-26 season, trailing only its 11-under 277 at the Sam Golden Invitational earlier this year.
Denisa Vodickova led the charge with a 5-under 67, matching the lowest individual round by a Red Raider this season and tying her career best. Vodickova opened with eight straight pars before eagling the 380-yard, par-4 ninth hole to make the turn at 2-under, then added three birdies on the back nine to complete a bogey-free 5-under round. She is tied for second at 6-under 138 (71-67).
Each of the Red Raiders' three other counting scores was par or better in the second round, aiding their 8-under round. Klara Hurtova carded a 2-under 70 to move to even-par 144 and into a tie for 18th, while Cameron Freund shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for 23rd at 1-over 145. Lauren Zaretsky added an even-par 72 and is tied for 13th at 1-under 143.
Maja Ambroziak's 2-over 74 was the Red Raiders' second round drop score. She is tied for 59th at 6-over 150 (76-74).
The final round begins Sunday with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. MST.
