Tech falls to CSU Bakersfield, 15-8

The Red Raiders saw their seven-game winning streak snapped
In the setback, Texas Tech (7-4) ultimately could not erase a pair of early six run deficits, as the Red Raiders saw their seven-game winning streak snapped.
After hitting just .200 (10-for-50) over the series first two games and scoring just seven times, CSU Bakersfield (5-7) hit six home runs and had nine extra-base hits denying Tech of another series sweep and a 7-0 home start.
Down 5-0 after one-half inning, the Red Raiders nearly put two runs on the board in the home half of the first, but a Logan Hughes fly ball to left was caught at the wall by CSUB.
Looking to cut into a 6-0 deficit in the third, the Red Raiders got a lead-off home run from Villeneuve and an RBI double from Hughes to pull Tech to within 6-2.
In the fourth, CSUB exploded for four more runs when Nick Mascaro hit a grand slam off Tech lefty Ryan Free that gave the Roadrunners a 10-2 lead. The centerfield was hitting just .167 (4-for-24) heading into the game.
During their turn at-bat in the fourth, the Red Raiders got a lead-off blast from Ferraro (his first as a Red Raider) and the second longball of the day from Villeneuve to pull to within 10-4.
After the teams traded runs in the fifth to bring the Roadrunners lead to 11-5 heading to the sixth, CSUB used a three-run home run from freshman Brendan Thompson to take a 14-5 lead. The longball was the first career for Thompson, who entered the day hitting just .200 (4-for-20) on the young season.
Needing a response, the Red Raiders used a two-out double from Villeneuve cut the Roadrunner lead to 14-6.
Following a scoreless frame from redshirt freshman Logan Addison, the Red Raiders got a two RBI single from freshman Linkin Garcia to get to within six (14-8) with one out in the seventh.
The RBIs were numbers 19 and 20 for Newport Beach native on the season who now is hitting an even .400 on the season.
The next Red Raider batter, Ferraro, worked a seven-pitch full pitch walk to place another runner on base.
Needing just eight outs to secure the season finale, the Roadrunners turned to reliever Jacob Gutierrez who used a pair of flyouts to extinguish the threat.
Gutierrez fired the final 2.2 innings for CSUB and allowed just two hits and one walk in his scoreless outing.
Down 15-8 heading to the ninth, the Red Raiders got a double in the right-center gap from Hughes and a single from Garcia to place two on and one out for Ferraro.
On the second pitch he saw from Gutierrez, Ferraro ripped a 110 MPH liner to right field that Jacob May was able to catch at the wall.
After a two out walk loaded the bases, Gutierrez was able to strike out the Red Raider catcher, Davis Rivers, to end the game.
Despite Sunday's series loss, the Red Raiders did reach eight runs for the eighth-straight contest and did record the series victory by virtue of Friday's 17-4 win and Saturday's 14-3 victory. Both games ended in run-rule fashion.
