Georgia Tech defeats Red Raiders

ATLANTA – The No. 57-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Georgia Tech (8-2) began the match by winning the doubles point against Texas Tech (6-4). At court one, Christophe Clement and Richard Biagiotti defeated Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri, 6-4. Clinching the doubles point were Gianluca Carlini and Jonathan Irwanto at court two after beating Sebastian Abboud and Felipe Pagnacco, 6-3.
Georgia Tech took a 2-0 lead in the match after Hidde Schoenmakers defeated Tyler Stewart at court two by a 6-4, 6-3 score. However, the Red Raiders bounced back as Ludovico Vaccari overtook Carlini at court three, 6-3, 6-4, to cut the lead in half. Then, Guglieri earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Elias Shokry at court five, 6-4, 6-3, to even the match at 2-all.
The remaining three matches were locked in battles, all playing in third sets. The Yellow Jackets were able to retake the lead after Biagiotti beat Abboud at court six, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Georgia Tech would clinch the 4-2 win after Irwanto won against Pagnacco at court four by a 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-3 score. When the match was clinched, Arsic was tied with Clement in the third set, 3-3, before it went unfinished.
Next up, the Red Raiders host a doubleheader against Oral Roberts on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
