Lady Raiders fall to No. 11 Arizona State

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 32-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the No. 11 Arizona State Sun Devils, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center. In the evening, Texas Tech bounced back as the Lady Raiders earned a doubles point against the Grand Canyon Lopes.
The Lady Raiders (7-3) claimed a dominant doubles point with a couple of wins against the Sun Devils (6-2) to start the day. At court two, the pairing of Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola defeated Zlata Bartanusz and Sara Svetac with a bagel, 6-0. Clinching the doubles point was the tandem of Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova over Karsyn Evans and Lily Taylor at court three with a 6-2 score. The No. 75-ranked duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy were ahead of Vivian Ovrootsky and Emilija Tverijonaite, 5-1, at the top court when their match went unfinished.
In singles, Arizona State would switched the momentum, winning all six first sets. The Sun Devils got their first point at court three when Ovrootsky defeated Hlahola, 6-1, 6-1. At court one, No. 16-ranked Tverijonaite beat Murphy by a 6-1, 7-5 score. Their third point came at court four when Taylor took down Daskalova, 7-5, 6-1. Clinching the match for Arizona State was Sarang Lim over Havana Kadi at court six, 6-3, 6-3.
Texas Tech began its match against Grand Canyon (5-4) with doubles. At court two, the GCU duo of Bella Crossman and Dania Deaifi defeated Hlahola and Daskalova, 6-4. The Lady Raiders came back, though, getting a win at court three next after Sleptsova and Brownback overtook Hams Metwally and Amália Suciu, 6-4. At court one, No. 75 Dmitrichenko and Murphy clinched the doubles point after they defeated Karina Hofbauer and Gala Arangio in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Up next, the Lady Raiders continue singles play against Grand Canyon on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT before playing a full match against No. 37 Iowa at 4 p.m. CT.
