No. 16 Tech cruises to 34-point win over Colorado
February 11, 2026 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – JT Toppin matched his career-high with 18 rebounds and recorded his 15th double-double of the season by adding 16 points to help No. 16 Texas Tech complete the season sweep of Colorado with a 78-44 win on Wednesday at United Supermarkets Arena. The Red Raiders (18-6, 8-3 Big 12) dominated throughout and finished the game with a 21-0 scoring advantage on second chance points, nine blocked shots, forced a season-high 16 turnovers with 10 steals, made 12 3-pointers and owned a 47-30 rebounding margin.
"I was on edge," Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. "I wanted our guys and everyone in the building to feel it. People can assume you're going to win games, but that's not how this works. There are two teams, they have a scouting report and you play for 40 minutes with a scoreboard. Whoever is the best team for those 40 minutes no matter who you think was going to win before it started, it's all about that time you get. I see our team advancing in the right way and our energy is what it needs to be."
Donovan Atwell led the Red Raiders with 20 points after going 6-for-10 on 3-pointers for his fourth game this season making six or more and shooting 60% or higher. Atwell, who made five 3-pointers in the 73-71 win at Colorado on January 10, now has 298 made 3-pointers through 118 career games. For the season, Atwell is 87-of-193 (45.1%) and is now only seven 3s away from matching Cory Carr's single-season record of 94 3-pointers during the 1996-97 season. Texas Tech, which leads the Big 12 with 11.5 3-pointers per game, finished the game shooting 12-for-30 (40.0%) on 3-pointers with Christian Anderson scoring 14 points on 3-for-6 from beyond the arc while Jaylen Petty made two and scored 12 points for his 12th double-figure scoring performance of the season. Anderson led the Red Raiders with seven assists while Luke Bamgboye led the team with four blocked shots and also added seven points and three rebounds.
Toppin, who already had 11 rebounds at halftime, matched his career high of 18 that he also had last season against Saint Joseph's. Toppin pulled down four of Tech's 17 offensive rebounds in the game while also having three blocked shots, two steals and two assists. It was his 46th career double-double, 73rd career double-figure scoring performance and his 51st career double-figure rebounding game. Toppin is now averaging 21.5 points and 10.9 rebounds per game this season and has 1,542 points and 886 rebounds through 92 games of his career.
Tech took a 39-22 lead into halftime after going 8-for-16 on 3-pointers and owning a 22-14 rebounding advantage through 20 minutes. Atwell led the Red Raiders with 12 points after shooting 4-for-7 on 3-pointers in the first half while Toppin already had 11 rebounds, two blocks and four points. Anderson went into the break with 10 points and five assists and Petty was 2-for-3 on 3-pointers and had eight points. Atwell and Anderson hit Tech's first two 3s of the game, putting the Red Raiders up 10-4 before the second 3s pushed it to 20-8. Tech went on a 7-0 run and led 24-8 and a pair of back-to-back 3s by Petty gave the Red Raiders a 33-19 lead. CU was 4-of-13 on 3-pointers and were down 12-4 on points in the paint. Tech went into halftime with six blocked shots with two each from LeJuan Watts, Toppin and Bamgboye. Watts finished the game five points, five rebounds and two blocks. Â
The Red Raiders improved to 12-1 on their home court and will now go on a two-game road trip starting with a matchup against No. 1 Arizona at 5:30 p.m. (CST) on Saturday at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, Arizona. The Wildcats (23-1, 10-1 Big 12) started the season with 23 straight wins but are coming off an 82-78 loss to No. 9 Kansas on Monday night. Arizona is 13-0 on their home court this season. Tech follows its nationally ranked matchup against Arizona by playing at Arizona State on Tuesday night before returning home to host K-State next Saturday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
