The Red Raiders will put a five-match road Big 12 winning streak on the line Friday night
WACO, Texas – Riding a five-match road Big 12 winning streak and unbeaten in its last 16 road Big 12 matches (11-0-5), RV Texas Tech Soccer hits the road for the Big 12 opener at undefeated Baylor Friday night.
First touch from Betty Lou Mays Field is set for 7 p.m.
Fresh off a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Utah State on Sunday, the Red Raiders enter the clash with BU having won three straight matches and six-of-seven to open the season. Tech's 6-1 start to the season is its best start since 2019 when the Red Raiders opened the season 9-1 overall.
The Red Raiders enter the start of Big 12 play having gone 21-2-7 overall in their last 30 Big 12 matches. The 21 overall wins are the most in the Big 12 over that span.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
MATCHUP: RV Texas Tech (6-1-0, 0-0-0 Big 12) at Baylor (5-0-2, 0-0-0 Big 12)
DATE: Friday, Sept. 19, 2025
TIME: 7 p.m.
LOCATION: Waco, Texas (Betty Lou Mays Field)
BY THE NUMBERS:
16: The Red Raiders enter Friday's match against Baylor with a five-match road winning streak dating back to a 0-0 draw last season against TCU. When you include that TCU match, the Red Raiders are now unbeaten in 16-straight road conference matches (11-0-5). That streak dates back to an Oct. 17, 2021 loss at No. 21 West Virginia.
2: While putting the ball in the back of the net is the name of the game, scoring twice has been critical for the Red Raiders success as since the start of the 2022 season, the Red Raiders are now 40-0-1 (lone tie at No. 7 BYU in 2023) when scoring two goals. When you expand that mark out to the beginning of the 2021 season, Tech is 49-2-1 when scoring twice in a match.
29: The nation's leader in assists per game (1.14), grad student Macy Blackburn recorded another assist on Sunday against Utah State. Blackburn recording an assist has been a positive as the Red Raiders improved to 29-1-1 when Blackburn records at least one assist in a contest. The lone loss for the Red Raiders in that span was last year's 2-1 heartbreaking loss to BYU in the season finale. With her assist last Sunday, Blackburn moved into a tie for 10th all-time on the points list (53) and now has four of the best 11 assist seasons in program history.
QUICK KICKS:
• Fresh off the third-straight victory to close non-conference play, Texas Tech Soccer enters Friday's Big 12 Opener at 6-1 overall. The start is Tech's best start through seven matches since 2019 when the Red Raiders began the season 9-1.
• For comparison purposes when the Red Raiders went 16-2-5 in 2023, the Red Raiders began that season at 5-0-2 en route to the programs first Big 12 Regular Season title and first-ever home Round of 16 match.
• Opening Big 12 play on the road for the second-straight season, the Red Raiders are 21-2-7 (.817) in their last 30 Big 12 matches dating back to and including the 2022 season.
• After finishing second in the Big 12 in 2022 with a 5-1-3 record, the Red Raiders went undefeated (8-0-2) in 2023 to capture the regular season title. Last year the Red Raiders entered the Big 12/regular season finale at 8-0-2 before falling to BYU 2-1.
• Tech's 21 total Big 12 victories the last three seasons are the most in the Big 12 over that span. Entering the contest with Baylor having won five-straight conference road matches and riding a 16-match conference road unbeaten streak (11-0-5), the Red Raiders are the only Big 12 program to have gone undefeated on the road in conference play the last three seasons.
• Sunday's win over Utah State was also an important one for the Red Raiders as it marked the first time since last season's Big 12 Championship win over Baylor that Tech won a contest in which it conceded first.
• The Aggies of Utah State scored first on Sunday in the 52nd minute before the Red Raiders answered three minutes later in 55th. It marked the first time that Tech conceded first at home since a Sept. 25, 2022, loss to Texas and marked just the 13th time in the last 60 matches (with a goal) that the Red Raiders conceded first in a match. The Red Raiders are 3-8-2 in those 13 contests.
• Boasting one of the nation's most dangerous and lethal combinations in the country, Texas Tech's combination of Taylor Zdrojewski and Macy Blackburn have combined to score the Red Raiders last three non-PK goals. In the win over NMSU, Blackburn recorded the primary assist on both of Zdrojewski's goals, while Tech's equalizer against Utah State was also scored off a primary assist from Blackburn.
• The helper moved the nations-leader in assists-per-game into a tie for 10th all-time on the Red Raiders point list (53) and improved the Red Raiders to 29-1-1 when she tallies an assist.
• Not to be out-shined by Blackburn, Zdrojewski also ranks inside the top-10 nationally in goals per game (1.00, 4th) and total goals (7, 8th). With three goals in her last two games, "Z" has scored 18 times and tallied eight assists in her last 29 games.
