No. 25 Tech rolls San Diego State, 4-0

The Red Raiders scored twice in the first seven minutes and three times in the first 35 minutes to record their first win of the season
SAN DIEGO – First Team All-American Macy Blackburn dished out three first half assists while Taylor Zdrojewski added a goal and an assist to power No. 25 Texas Tech to a commanding 4-0 win over San Diego State, Thursday night at the SDSU Sport Desk.
Picking up right where she left off in 2024, Blackburn showed off the full repertoire in the victory setting up the first three Texas Tech (1-0) goals on the evening off a free kick, a throw in and a corner kick.
The first assist for Blackburn came on a nearly 40-yard service that after being headed on by Zdrojewski found a wide open Kaitlyn Giametta who slotted home the Red Raiders first official goal of the season at the 3:56 mark of the match. The goal for Giametta came after the fifth-year senior scored in the Red Raiders 4-0 exhibition win at DU last week.
It didn't take long for Tech to strike again, as a deep throw in by Blackburn fell to sixth-year senior Chloe Japic. Showing the poise and skill of the true veteran she is, Japic played a brilliant ball that fell to 2023 Third Team All-American Sam Courtright who one-timed a rising shot off the crossbar and in for her first goal since Oct. 12, 2023.
Courtwright, who scored in last season's exhibition contest over Denver, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the final week of training leading up to the Red Raiders season opener and missed the entire 2024 season.
The blast gave Tech a 2-0 lead just six minutes and 32 seconds into the match.
Not satisfied, the Red Raiders struck for a third goal in 34 minutes when a perfect corner kick service was headed home by Zdrojewski on the far post.
The goal allowed the Red Raiders to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Looking to salt away the victory, Tech found its fourth and final strike of the evening, when a perfect 1-2 from sophomore Millie Elwood and Japic found a streaking Raliegh Greason.
One of the nation's best goal scorers at the club level during her youth career, Greason zoomed past the San Diego State (0-1) backline and slotted a ball past Aztec keeper Kailey Carlen for her first career goal.
Greason was active in her first career appearance logging three total shots (two on goal) and the 79th minute goal in 40 total minutes.
In net, Tech keeper Faith Nguyen was forced to make just three comfortable saves in her 11th career shutout and the Red Raiders 26th total shutout since the start of the 2023 season.

Tech will head back to Lubbock on Friday afternoon to prepare for Sunday's season opener against Youngstown State. First Touch from the John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
