Lady Raiders fall in NCAA Round of 32

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 12 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the No. 25 Stanford Cardinal, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Round of 32 at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Stanford (17-8) took the doubles point from Texas Tech (23-3) to open the contest. At court three, Chidimma Okpara and Morgan Shaffer defeated Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif, 6-3. Then, No. 27 Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over No. 8 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova at court one. Over at court two, Hailey Murphy and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko were tied with Caroline Driscoll and Valencia Xu, 5-5, when it went unfinished.
Stanford took a 3-0 lead after winning the first two singles matches of the day. No. 88 Driscoll won first with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hlahola at court three. The Cardinal then got a victory at court one when No. 12 Ma defeated Sayfetdinova, 6-1, 6-1.
At court six, Sherif was taking on Okpara and won in straight sets to put a point on the board for Tech with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 outing. Sherif finishes the dual season with a perfect 15-0 record in singles. She now ranks first in program history in dual singles winning percentage.
No. 8-ranked Glozman clinched the win for Stanford when she defeated Dmitrichenko, 7-6 (2), 6-1 at court two. When the match was over, Lila was ahead of Xu at court four, 6-4, 4-3 before it went unfinished. Over at court five, Murphy was looking to force a third set against Alexandra Yepifanova as she tied the second set at 5-5.
The Lady Raiders finish the year with a 23-3 overall record and a 12-1 Big 12 record, winning both the Big 12 regular season and the Big 12 Tournament title.
