Tech sweeps Houston for 14th Big 12 win of the year
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 14 Red Raiders (34-9, 14-1) extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 3-0 win over Houston (20-19, 3-13) on Sunday afternoon. Tech's 14 Big 12 wins is now a new single-season program record.
The Red Raiders' 17th shutout victory of the season came from the arms of Samantha Lincoln and Chloe Riassetto. Lincoln started the game and went 3.0 innings allowing just three hits while striking out two. Riassetto came in for the final 4.0 innings allowing just one hit as she picked up the win to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Tech's defense had another solid game as they recorded two double plays thanks to the fielding of infielders Bailey Lindemuth, Hailey Toney, Alexa Langeliers and Lauren Allred.
Demi Elder went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of singles as Langeliers, Raegan Jennings and Victoria Valdez all picked up an RBI.
The Red Raiders have now swept four straight Big 12 opponents dating back to their series with Baylor in mid-March. Tech sits atop the Big 12 standings at 14-1 with Arizona behind them at 13-5 setting up an important match up next weekend.
How it happened:
Valdez lined a double into left field to score Jennings from second – who doubled the at-bat prior – to get the scoring started for the Red Raiders.
The following inning, Jennings was able to draw a bases-loaded walk in the third inning to bring home Allred after Langeliers drove in a run with a grounder to second base.
Tech's pitching staff did a great job of getting the Cougars to ground out as they forced 14 ground outs including two double plays. Houston's offense had a hard time leaving the infield with their at-bats and the Big 12's No. 1 defense in conference play proved their ranking.
UP NEXT: Tech will travel to Arizona to take on the Wildcats in a three-game series starting Thursday.
