The Red Raiders go head-to-head with preseason pick to win the Big 12
LUBBOCK, Texas – Big 12 play begins this weekend and arguably the most anticipated series of the season has arrived. No. 15 Texas Tech (18-6) will play host to No. 13 Oklahoma State (15-4) in a clash of the No. 1 and 2 picks in the conference preseason poll beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 6 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Red Raiders and Cowgirls will then play Sunday at 12 p.m. to round out the weekend.
"I feel good going into the conference," said Gerry Glasco. "Oklahoma St. is an outstanding ball club with an extremely good coach in Kenny Gajewski. We are super excited about having them and we have been working hard to prepare for these games."
Oklahoma State is on an 11-game win streak entering Lubbock and are one of the hotter teams in the country. Tech is coming off an up-and-down week of play but had a big bounce-back win against No. 5 Texas A&M – the first time since 2012 that the Red Raiders have beaten a top five team.
The Cowgirls lead the series 24-50 all time and have won 16 of the last 17 games between the two. However, this will be just the fourth ever meeting between the teams when they are both ranked. The last time came in 2019 when Tech was No. 13 and Oklahoma St. No. 12.

Previously in Tech softball:
- At the Texas A&M Invitational, Raegan Jennings and Logan Halleman found a groove on offense. Jennings hit .538 with an RBI as Halleman batted .500 with two stolen bases. Mihyia Davis and Alexa Langeliers also turned it on batting .400 and .389, respectively, and leading the team with 11 total bases each as Langeliers led the team with 8 RBI.
- Tech got its 9th and 10th shutout wins of the season against Princeton and Texas State over the weekend. The Red Raiders now have the third-most shutout victories both coming from the arm of Chloe Riassetto who looked phenomenal in her two starts.
- NiJaree Canady was named the No. 1 two-way player in the country by Softball America. Canady is batting .319 with four home runs and 20 RBI while going 7-2 with 96 strikeouts and a 0.62 ERA in the circle.
- Freshman shortstop Hailey Toney is one of just nine freshmen shortstops to start every game for their team this season and one of two from a power four school. Toney has reached base safely in all but four of her 24 games this season and is riding a streak of 16 straight games where she has reached safely while batting .310 with three homers and 13 RBI.
- Fellow freshman Bailey Lindemuth has started 22 of her 24 games at third base with the other two starts coming from in the circle. Tech is in a rare class of schools to have both a starting third baseman and starting shortstop that are freshmen - positions that are normally held by players with several years of experience.
- After missing most of last season with an injury, Lauren Allred has looked to get back to her old self this season. She was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 25 and currently sits tied for the team lead in home runs (4) and RBI (20) while leading the team with a .755 slugging percentage. The sophomore has been exactly what the Red Raider's offense has needed over her dominate stretch.
- The Red Raiders are one of the fastest teams in the country. They rank 10th in the country and first in the Big 12 for stolen bases with 54. Mihyia Davis also leads the Big 12 in stolen bases with 14 with Logan Halleman right behind her at third in the Big 12 with 11.
- The Red Raiders pitching staff has issued just 26 walks this season. They have the third best strikeout-to-walk ratio in the country at 5.92 Ks per walk and they lead the Big 12 in the category as well.
