LARAMIE, Wyo. – Nine different players scored on Thursday night and three were in double-digits as the Texas Tech Lady Raiders defeated the 4-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls, 65-48, in the first round of the WBIT at Arena-Auditorium.
Texas Tech (18-17) was led in scoring by both Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin, who each totaled 17 points against Wyoming (22-12). Coming into the game, Shavers needed just four points to reach 500 on the season… Now with 17 against Wyoming, Shavers put up back-to-back seasons with 500+ points and becomes the fifth Lady Raider to do so. Shavers also went 7-for-8 from the free throw line, added two assists and led the team with five rebounds. Maupin went 6-for-12 from the field with four rebounds and a team-high three assists to also lead the way in scoring.
Junior Kilah Freelon had a great game – recording her third outing of the year with double-figures as she had 10 points on the night while also adding four boards and a team-best three steals. Both Kalysta "Bird" Martin and Achol Magot scored in a game for the first time since 2024. For Martin, it was her time scoring since December 3, 2024 against SFA, and for Magot, it was her first time scoring since November 19, 2024.
The Lady Raiders went 24-for-50 (.480) from the field, shooting above .400 in six of the last seven games. Holding Wyoming to just 34.7 percent from the field (17-for-49), the Lady Raiders also held the Cowgirls to single-digit scoring in the second and third quarters. Tech made six 3-pointers and totaled 31 rebounds, 11 assists, seven steals and four blocks, with Sarengbe Sanogo recording three of those blocks. Magot came in with 15 seconds left in the period and got an offensive board and putback to make it a one-point deficit heading into the second.
Texas Tech scored the first four points of the next period thanks to baskets from Maupin and Sanogo. Sanogo followed this up with a block at the other end. A minute later, Wyoming got a jumper before Shavers made her first field goal of the game. The Lady Raiders answered with an 8-0 run with Maupin and Sanogo scoring all eight points. Tech held Wyoming scoreless for almost four minutes before the Cowgirls got a layup with 49 seconds left. Martin answered immediately, scoring a 3-pointer with a couple seconds to spare in the half to give Tech a 34-24 advantage.

Both teams traded points back-and-forth until the media timeout at 4:03 as Tech led 55-45. Maupin made a floater after the timeout, then Tech forced a Wyoming turnover to make the Cowgirls call a timeout. Shavers made a couple more free throws before Wyoming scored three-consecutive points to make it 59-48. Maupin responded with a fastbreak layup, then the team connected with free throws to win the game 65-48.
