LUBBOCK, Texas – Four players recorded double-figure scoring, with two almost getting double-doubles, as the Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned a gritty win in overtime, 83-79, against the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (15-16, 4-14 Big 12) was on a nine-game skid heading into senior day, winning their first game since January 22 after taking down Colorado at home (18-11, 9-9 Big 12). Texas Tech tied for the most free throws made this season with 23 on the day and also shot 49.1 percent (26-for-53) from the field, their 18th time shooting over 40 percent from the field this year and third-straight game doing so. Both teams didn't make a field goal for three minutes until Colorado hit a three at the end of the quarter to make it 50-45.
In the final period, Maupin made a jumper to start the scoring. Then, the Buffs went on a 6-1 run to make it a two-point game and force a Texas Tech timeout with 7:44 left. Bristow was able to get the steal and a layup off the turnover, then Freelon made two free throws before the Buffs scored the next eight points to take the lead at 61-59 with 3:22 left. Bristow answered with a second-chance layup to tie it back at 61-all, but Colorado scored right after for the lead. Colorado held a 67-64 advantage with 28 seconds left, but the Lady Raiders fought back – getting it tied at 67-67 with three-straight free throws from Bristow after she got fouled on a three attempt.
