McCasland previews Sam Houston matchup
November 06, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – Two days after opening the season with a 38-point win, Texas Tech was back on the court and in full preparation mode for the next game on the schedule. Focus throughout practice on Thursday morning was on two things – improving and Sam Houston. The next test for the No. 10-ranked Red Raiders comes at 7 p.m. on Friday against the Bearkats at United Supermarkets Arena. Below are quotes from head coach Grant McCasland leading into the matchup.
On what was learned in the season opener: "Our first game was a great start. Mostly because of the competitiveness of this group. We played a lot of young guys who didn't have much experience at this level. For us to compete the way we did, even though it wasn't perfect and we made mistakes, but we didn't let the mistakes impact how hard we played. The growth of this team will keep getting better as we play more games."
On playing against Sam Houston: "Coach Mudge and Sam Houston have a tradition of winning. That's what I respect about what they're doing. I've watched them play on film and have competed against them in the past and they just compete like they're winning championships. They have an edge. I really like the team they put together. They can score, have great guard play and are physical. It's going to be a great test and we'll have our hands full in playing a Sam Houston team that I expect will be competing for their league championship. They have a chance to be a really great team."
