McCasland previews Milwaukee
November 13, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – Grant McCasland spoke with the Lubbock media for about 12 minutes on Thursday to preview the fourth game of the season and to revisit the third. No. 11 Texas Tech hosts Milwaukee at 7 p.m. on Friday at United Supermarkets Arena and is coming off a road battle at No. 14 Illinois where it fell by four. The Red Raiders returned from their first loss of the season and have quickly turned the page – putting focus on the Panthers who were picked to win the Horizon League in their preseason poll. Below is a selection of McCasland quotes from the press conference.
On flipping the script to Friday night: "We played in a great road environment at Illinois and learned a lot in that game. I loved our competitiveness of our team in the second half. I love our team and being around them. I love the way we've responded and our best days are definitely ahead of us. We know we're facing a great Milwaukee team. When you schedule teams you do that to get teams that will make you better for conference. Their team is unbelievably hard playing and we'll have our hands full but are looking forward to be able to compete."
On responding from the loss: "We got back and watched film and got treatment. We got back to it with no excuses for why things didn't go our way. It's about leaning into getting better. Everyone just loves basketball. It helps. It's the most underrated part of this. There is a lot of gain from playing college basketball right now. You can look at it for what you get from it, but if you love it, then you're going to show up because you want to play. It is a game. It's about how you appreciate playing basketball every day. This group does that. They just love basketball. What separates us, and what I think will make our team special, is that they're all really good guys and love being around each other. Everyone showed up to our building to get treatment and there was an energy for wanting to be there. You could see it in their faces on how they were engaged. Our guys are engaging in the right way and we had a really competitive practice. That's what you want to see. You don't want to see them going through the motions. You want to see an elevated energy in how we compete. That's what this team has done in responding to losing at Illinois."
On Milwaukee: "First and foremost, they play really hard. They don't back down. They're one of the best teams being disruptive defensively and change defenses some. They're active and aggressive. They're an awesome offensive rebounding team and attack you offensively to score with pace. They're a hard-playing, tough program that doesn't back down from anybody."
