Ambroziak poised for 2nd career victory at Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas Tech women's golf junior Maja Ambroziak set the 36-hole pace at 7-under-par Sunday afternoon at the Jim West Challenge, shooting rounds of 67 and 70. As a team, the Red Raiders sit in a tie for fifth at 3-over-par (579) at Kissing Tree Golf Club.

Ambroziak got hot, carding seven birdies in her second round, including three in a row across holes No. 12 and No. 14 to fire a 5-under-par 67. She also birdied three out of her last five holes to help combat two dropped shots during the round. This was a similar finish to her opening round of 2-under-par 70, where she birdied three out of her last four holes.

The Olsztyn, Poland, native has only found the top-10 once this season, and is in position for her first victory since she won the Red Raider Invitational in 2023 as a freshman.

Ambroziak will have to fend off at least three individuals, who are each just one shot off the lead at 6-under-par.

Senior Lauren Zaretsky is just outside the top-20 at 2-over-par. She fired back-to-back rounds of 73 with four birdies in each round. She fought back, carding three birdies over her last six holes in both rounds to combat her dropped shots earlier in the rounds. She is in a position to earn her third top-20 of the season with 18 holes to play.

At 8-under-par, Florida State leads Texas A&M by seven shots at 9-under-par entering the final day.
