Lady Raiders sweep Musketeers, Wildcats on Sunday

LUBBOCK, Texas – Opening the dual season at home on Sunday afternoon, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders completed two sweeps en route to a perfect day at the Lubbock Country Club – winning against the Xavier Musketeers, 7-0, and against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 6-0.
Texas Tech (2-0) started out with an early lead over Xavier (0-1) after winning two doubles matches. The Lady Raider duo of Hailey Murphy and Elena Daskalova paired up at court three, defeating the pair of Sofia Mazzucato and Natalie Smitek in decisive fashion, 6-1. Clinching the point was No. 15-ranked Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola at the top of the lineup. Taking on No. 17 Abby Nugent and Clara Owen, the Lady Raiders earned a 6-3 win to pick up the top-20 victory.
In singles, Yekaterina Dmitrichenko got the first victory of the afternoon after downing Madeleine Rexroat at court three by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Tech went up 3-0 when Andreea Lila overtook Emily Flowers at court four by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Clinching the match was Hlahola at court two against Nugent. Hlahola won the first set, 6-2, then came back from down 4-5 to force a breaker. In the tiebreak, Hlahola and Nugent went back-and-forth until the Lady Raider won it, 7-6 (7).
Sayfetdinova made a comeback win at the top court against Musketeer Elizabeth Pendergast. She dropped the first set in a tiebreak, 6-7 (2) but evened the score at 6-3 in set two. She was down 0-5 and 2-7 in the third set super tiebreaker, but came back to win it, 14-12. Murphy won her singles match at court five over Xavier's Abigail Siminski with a couple 6-2 scores to make it 6-0 in Tech's favor. Then, Arina Oreshchenkova closed out the perfect sweep against Mazzucato. She won the first set, 6-3, before going down 1-5 in set two. The junior would win five of the next six games to force a tiebreak, then sealing it with the 7-6 (4) score.
Once again, the Lady Raiders started out hot in doubles against the Wildcats (0-2). Jermine Sherif and Daskalova paired up at court three, defeating the ACU duo of Hebe Toyos and Jess Board by a 6-2 score. The No. 15-ranked tandem of Sayfetdinova and Hlahola dominated their match at the top court, clinching the doubles point with a win over Olivia Sears and Masha Vrsalovic, 6-2.
In singles, Daskalova made quick work of Eva Arranz at line four as she only dropped one game in the 6-1, 6-0 victory. Murphy made it 3-0 in Tech's favor after downing Angela Del Campo at court three, 6-2, 6-3. Dmitrichenko clinched the win for the Lady Raiders after taking down Vrsalovic at court two by a 7-5, 6-2 score. At the top of the lineup, Hlahola earned a comeback win over Sears, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (4). Then, Oreshchenkova helped with the sweep for the second-straight match after defeating Board at court five, 6-2, 6-1.
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Knoxville, Tenn., for ITA Kickoff Weekend, taking on Tennessee on January 24 before facing either NC State or Ohio State the following day.
