It's the second-consecutive year that Tech sends at least three runners to the NCAA meet. Along with Cherubet in 2023, Anastasia Chepkorir and Gideon Kiplimo all earned bids.
Each Red Raider punched their ticket to the championship as one of the top-placing individuals at the regional race this past weekend in Reno, Nev. Kipchoge won the 10k at the Mountain Region race as Cheruiyot finished third overall. Meanwhile, Cherubet placed second overall. The first four runners who placed inside the top-25 that were not part of the top-2 automatic qualifying teams, earned a spot at the final site.
Up to this point in the season, Cherubet holds a personal best of 18:37.0 in the 6k, having finished each of her six races in the top-2 (three wins). Kipchoge, on the other hand, has four races under his belt with three victories and one second-place outing (Big 12 Championships). He won the Mountain Region meet last week – his first 10k of the year which he clocked in at 28:55.9.
In six races this season for Cheruiyot, all have finished in the top-5, including two wins. He holds a personal best of 29:17.6 in the 10k as he placed third last weekend in Reno.
